First notes from Miss Swiss

I've never done a blog until today, because today I realized I want to remember my experiences in Switzerland with detail and in an order that makes sense...eventually with time it will get all jumbled and scewed. So today is the beginning.

The beginning.
Looking back I wonder how I find myself this hour sitting in the computer room of our little chalet in the Simmental Valley in the town of Lenk, population 2,000 (or 2,500). Inspired by Chelsea K. and bitten by the travel bug (long before now) I hopped on a plane on May 11th to start an adventure, something I am always seeking. At 26 I almost felt ashamed that I had only flown solo for the first time 2 weeks prior to visit Kristin in Massachusetts.

Once my trip began there were only two hiccups on the way over. #1- my baggage was lost in Amsterdam, #2 I was frisked at the airport and felt like a thief. In one piece and in good spirits I arrived in Zurich on the 12th and caught the train for the next 1 1/2 hours until I reached Lenk. The scenic trip made me so excited to be doing something new. The grass was glowing it was so green, and the little chalet's made me feel like someone's mom was inside wearing an apron and making fresh bread each day (it's not true but I got the feeling). When I hoped off the train I took a deep breath and pulled out the notebook I had taken along with a scratched out map of the town. If you know me at all you know directions are not my thing and they were somewhat vague at that. In addition, if you've ever been to the town of Lenk you would know that all of the chalets look eerily similar. Dark brown weathered wood and shutters painted in "Simmental Green" (really, there is an ordinance that requires it). Luckily, Chelsea and our soon to be new friend Alex Lefty Philips met me right at the station with big smiles and big hugs. Things were off to a good start.
